Job Description Mission of the Position: The Customs Analyst will have responsibility for various Customs compliance tasks to support Magna Powertrain (MPT) and Magna Electronics (ME) facilities supported by the MPT Customs Team. This position will be the Subject Matter Expert on Brokerage/Operations and will work closely with vendors, suppliers, manufacturers, and MPT/ME divisions to obtain information required by MPT’s/ME‘s Customs Brokers to ensure compliant and timely import entries are filed with U.S. Customs and Border Protection as part of the Broker Referral process.

  • Responsible as the process owner and management of the Broker Referral process, to obtain and provide critical information to MPT’s/ME’s customs brokers to ensure highest levels of import entry compliance are met
  • Maximize duty savings opportunities via application of Free Trade Agreements (e.g., USMCA, KORUS), Special Trade Programs, and HTSUS 9801/9802, including solicitation and qualification as needed
  • Support Magna cross functional teams and divisions with Duty Impact Analysis to assist with sourcing decisions and landed cost calculations
  • Measure customs broker compliance with Magna’s Broker Business Rules
  • Provide operational support to MPT/ME divisions such as but not limited to hand carry shipments, shipment issues/delays, and reporting of shipment status/updates
  • Manage Temporary Import Bond shipment process to determine proper applicability and tracking, requesting extensions as needed
  • Provide reporting and analytical support for other Compliance Team initiatives via ACE Reports and/or Ad Hoc Reports from MPT/ME customs brokers
  • Provide operational support to MPT/ME divisions as part of their Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) initiative
  • Responsible for determining HTS classification for Non-Production parts/commodities
  • Responsible to support implementation of automation and systems to streamline trade compliance processes and ensure timely adherence to international trade laws and documentation requirements.
  • Provide decision support on day-to-day basis compliance matters
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or an Operations Management related field strongly preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of related work experience required.
  • U.S. & Canadian regulatory import, export, and re-export trade compliance experience.
  • Complete understanding of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Regulations, including knowledge of Customs Valuation and Classification under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S. and Canada
  • Knowledge of Free Trade Agreements, Special Trade Programs, HTSUS 9801/9802 and documentary requirements
  • Understand country of origin and marking issues, recordkeeping requirements, and supply chain security regulations as they relate to imports.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 10% of the time
