About The Position

As an entry-level Customer Support Chemist within PPG's Substrate Protection Services team, you will support automotive OEM customers. You will combine hands-on analytical lab work with customer-facing technical support, focusing on testing, troubleshooting, and improving pretreatment and electrocoat products. Ideal for candidates looking to build experience in analytical chemistry, instrumentation, and the automotive coatings industry. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • 0–2 years of lab or analytical experience (including internships or academic research)
  • Basic knowledge of analytical instrumentation and laboratory techniques
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and data analysis skills
  • Effective communication and ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office; ability to learn lab systems (LIMS)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in automotive, coatings, or chemical industry
  • Familiarity with ASTM methods and industry standards
  • Experience with statistical/data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP)
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (EPA, OSHA, ISO)
  • Customer-facing or technical support experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical and quality control testing on products and materials using established methods
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation (e.g., GC, HPLC, titrators)
  • Analyze and interpret data; generate reports and communicate findings to internal teams and customers
  • Support technical troubleshooting and root cause investigations for product performance issues
  • Maintain accurate documentation in lab systems and ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, and technical service teams
  • Follow all laboratory safety, regulatory, and quality procedures
  • Assist with method development, continuous improvement, and lab operations
