About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Customer Service Specialist to join our team. Under the general supervision of the Utilities Customer Service Supervisor (Call Center and/or Cashier), this position is responsible for delivering high-quality customer service via phone, email, in-person, and written correspondence. You will handle a variety of customer account activities, including billing, account maintenance, service requests, and payment processing. This role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) year of experience in a fast-paced, professional customer service environment.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to customers via phone, email, or in person.
  • Maintain accurate utility account records and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Review and process New Account Applications, Transfers, and Disconnection Requests.
  • Generate reports and process service work completed by Meter Services.
  • Schedule and close service orders, including disconnections for non-payment.
  • Apply policies and procedures in interactions with customers, developers, homeowners, engineers, architects, and other utilities.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication in all forms (verbal and written).
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with customer information.
  • Collect, post, and reconcile daily utility payments (cash, checks, debit/credit cards).
  • Issue receipts and balance cash drawers at the end of each business day.
  • Assist customers at the lobby counter, by phone, and via email.
  • Process incoming correspondence, applications, transfers, and past due collections.
  • Respond to Public Records Requests in accordance with established procedures.
  • Verify transaction accuracy through system controls and supervisor audits.
