About The Position

Campbell County is currently looking for a full-time Customer Service Specialist to join the team at the Rustburg Library, located at 684 Village Hwy, Rustburg, VA 24588. Requirements

  • Knowledge of library practices, procedures and techniques.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Tact, poise, and resourcefulness in dealing with the public.
  • Working knowledge of computer software.
  • Physical ability to perform basic library tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Work the circulation desk which mainly involves checking materials in and out for patrons.
  • Assist patrons in selection and location of books and other materials.
  • Place holds for requested materials, contact patrons when items are available.
  • Register patrons, issue library cards, and enter information into the database.
  • Shelve returned materials; assist in keeping shelves straightened and accessible.
  • Instruct patrons in use of PAC and other resources.
  • Actively promote filling patron requests through placing holds, branch transfer of materials, and Interlibrary Loans.
  • Collect fines and fees for lost and damaged materials.
  • Answer routine reference questions, refer others to professional staff.
  • Make minor repairs and clean damaged materials when needed.
  • Perform tasks associated with opening and closing the library in a timely manner.
  • Collect reference and attendance statistics required by the Library of Virginia.
  • Assist public in basic operation of computers, phones, and tablets.
  • Conduct basic reader’s advisory.
  • Attend workshops and conferences and training sessions as required.
  • Record receipt of periodicals and maintain shelves and files.
  • Print overdue notices and maintain overdue records.
  • Print reports as requested.
  • Maintain circulation statistics.
  • Schedule use of the Programming Room and file contact information.
  • Maintain patron records and files.
  • Delete inactive patrons from database.
  • Oversee proper function of fax machine, and copier; reporting problems; and keeping supplies in stock.
  • Transport materials and supplies to branch libraries 2-3 times per week.
  • Collect materials placed on hold for each branch.
  • Responsible for upkeep and general preventive maintenance of van.
  • Responsible for decorating the library and/or creating book displays.
  • Be familiar with area local school reading lists.
  • Assist students in finding materials needed for projects and homework assignments.
  • Responsible for scheduling use of program room.
  • Responsible for mending books.
  • Shelf read and inventory the collection.
