About The Position

The Customer Service Specialist – Farmers’ Market Program provides family-centered customer service, including scheduling appointments and issuing benefits, with a primary focus on distributing vouchers through the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). This role also supports participants by providing brief nutrition education, promoting the use of fresh, local foods, and collaborating with farmers and community partners to increase access to locally grown produce for WIC families.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Distributes FMNP vouchers in accordance with state and federal guidelines and assists with onsite voucher redemption opportunities when available
  • Promotes the FMNP to WIC participants, community partners, and local growers to increase awareness, participation, and voucher redemption rates
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with farmers, market managers, and food justice partners to expand access to fresh, locally grown produce for WIC families
  • Delivers brief, participant-centered nutrition education related to fruit and vegetable consumption, seasonal produce, and shopping at local farmers’ markets
  • Develops and distributes posters, handouts, and other educational materials highlighting local produce, growers, and ways to use seasonal fruits and vegetables
  • Conducts food tastings, recipe demonstrations, and occasional onsite produce distribution in collaboration with growers and food justice partners to encourage participants to prepare and enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Answers incoming calls using a multiline phone system, responds to voicemail messages promptly, and provides accurate information regarding FMNP availability, eligibility, and distribution schedules
  • Schedules participant appointments for all clinics
  • Processes online applications and referrals from community partners
  • Greetings customers arriving for appointments and complete check-in process
  • Issues electronic benefits to participants accurately and efficiently and provides customer support related to FMNP vouchers and market shopping
  • Maintains a welcoming, breastfeeding-friendly environment
  • Provides referrals to community resources, including local farmers’ markets and food access programs
  • Collaborates with community partners to support access to fresh, local produce
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
