About The Position

The City of Beaverton is seeking a City Services and Utility Billing Specialist to provide exceptional customer service at the Central Services Desk in City Hall. This role involves assisting residents and visitors with utility billing inquiries, processing payments, and providing guidance on various city services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customer service, bookkeeping, and a passion for helping the community.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting, business, or a related field.
  • Three years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, including one year in local or state government.
  • One year of face-to-face customer service experience in a public setting.

  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers at the central services desk by answering questions, processing payments, and updating customer accounts related to utility billing.
  • Explain utility rates, charges, and provide information regarding water consumption and utility programs.
  • Research and resolve customer inquiries and assist with completing forms.
  • Help customers applying for a United States passport, ensuring compliance with Department of State specifications.
  • Support customers applying for or renewing Beaverton business licenses, including processing payments and answering questions.
  • Reconcile payments and prepare bank deposits.
  • Greet customers entering The Beaverton Building and provide general assistance.
  • Direct customers to appropriate locations and provide verbal directions and maps.
  • Maintain an inventory of maps, phone numbers, and contacts to assist walk-in customers.
  • Handle utility billing tasks such as updating accounts, processing customer moves, and scheduling meter readings.
  • Provide customer support via phone and email.
  • Work independently and communicate important needs to supervisors.
