About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Customer Service Representative to join our team! This position performs all duties related to the collection of accounts receivable for Mountain View Hospital and Idaho Falls Community Hospital. The representative establishes payment arrangements with patients in order to collect on accounts, answers incoming phone calls for the billing department, and assists patients who have services rendered at a variety of locations, ensuring a great experience with the hospital's billing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to use hospital information system and operate basic computer functions and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work well with others.

Responsibilities

  • Collects delinquent accounts, establishes payment arrangements with patients, and follows up to ensure that delinquent accounts are being paid.
  • Evaluates unpaid accounts and works with collection agency and small-claims court action accounts.
  • Handles all bankruptcy accounts.
  • Follows phone etiquette policy at all times, ensuring patients feel heard and understood.
  • Answers incoming calls from patients and other departments with inquiries regarding patient accounts.
  • Sets up all payment arrangements on accounts and monitors them to ensure compliance.
  • Works on payment arrangements with self-paying accounts that are overdue, types and mails collection letters, and reviews accounts on a scheduled basis.
  • Records all transactions and correspondence on accounts.
  • Records payments received on accounts and notifies collection agency of amounts received.
  • Prepares bad debt report to send to outside agency.
  • Handles all medical liens.
  • Handles all patient financial applications for hospital assistance and mails approval or denial letters.
  • Accepts and completes other duties assigned.
