About The Position

As a Customer Service Representative (Patient Registration), you will assist patients checking into the Emergency Room at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin. This role is in a fast-paced, high-volume department where you will be the primary contact for patients during registration, answering questions and collecting information accurately and quickly while also providing compassionate support. The ideal candidate is a confident multi-tasker, quick to learn technology, and proficient in typing and phone communication. While no prior healthcare knowledge is required, the role is a starting point for a healthcare career. The environment involves exposure to illness and injuries, particularly in the emergency room. Comprehensive training will be provided. All candidates must be up to date on vaccinations, pass a drug test, and pass a background check before hire.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent customer service experience
  • Ready to work in a very fast-paced, high-stress environment
  • Basic computer multitasking and typing skills are required
  • Hospital or medical/clinic experience is needed
  • Up to date on all vaccinations
  • Pass a drug test
  • Pass a background check before hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work on computers and answer phones to intake information in a busy, high-volume, stressful Emergency Department of the Hospital
  • Work across multiple screens collecting details that must be input correctly between physician and nurse check-ins
  • Feel comfortable working across multiple programs and typing as quickly as patients can talk
  • Work around clinicians interrupting the registration process for emergent clinical care
  • Help people who may be very ill or worried by listening carefully to ease their anxiety
  • Ask follow-up questions and build rapport in real time
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, on your feet assisting patients in completing their registration
  • Acquire knowledge through training regarding the variation in health plans and coverage for collecting patient and insurance information
  • Work quickly and expect the unexpected
