About The Position

R1 is a leading provider of technology-driven solutions that transform the patient experience and financial performance of hospitals, health systems, and medical groups. As a Customer Service Representative (Patient Registration), you will be responsible for helping patients check into the Emergency Department of the hospital. This is a fast-paced, high-volume department where you will be the person patients rely on to answer questions during registration. The role requires building trust by collecting information accurately and quickly, and by listening with compassion to address patient fears, concerns, and questions. To succeed, you need to be a confident multi-tasker, a quick study with technology, and able to type accurately and answer phones. No previous healthcare experience or knowledge is required, making it an ideal starting point for a healthcare career. The position is in a hospital/lab environment, so you must be prepared to encounter illness and injuries, especially in the emergency room. Comprehensive training will be provided. Prior to hire, candidates must be up to date on all vaccinations, pass a drug test, and pass a background check.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Work on computers and answer phones to intake information in a busy, high-volume, stressful Emergency Department of the Hospital.
  • Work across multiple screens, collecting and accurately inputting details between physician and nurse check-ins.
  • Type as quickly as patients can talk.
  • Work effectively around clinicians who may interrupt the registration process for emergent clinical care.
  • Help people who may be very ill or worried by listening carefully to ease their anxiety, asking follow-up questions, and building rapport in real time.
  • Assist patients in completing their registration, which includes collecting patient and insurance information and understanding variations in health plans and coverage.
  • Work quickly and expect the unexpected in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be on your feet assisting patients.
