About The Position

The Donor Support Technician is responsible for preparing the donor, donor area, and equipment for the pheresis processors. This role involves monitoring the donor and the pheresis process, responding to specific alarms or signals that may occur during the process, and disconnecting the donor when the process is complete. The technician must maintain alertness and awareness of any reactions the donor may have during or after the pheresis process and notify appropriate staff. Additionally, the technician will use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents that occur during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts and alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events. The role also includes ensuring the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The technician must maintain a clean and efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Following all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures is essential, as is promoting safety in all actions. Confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information must be maintained. The technician may be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business, and bilingual skills may be required at the discretion of the organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) months' work experience, preferably in a medical or health provider environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions.
  • Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
  • Ability to perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of the time.
  • Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and have a high level of manual dexterity.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the autopheresis machine for the pheresis process.
  • Monitor the donor and the pheresis process, responding to specific alarms or signals.
  • Disconnect the donor when the process is complete.
  • Maintain alertness to any reactions the donor may have during or after the pheresis process.
  • Notify appropriate staff of any issues.
  • Record incidents during the pheresis process using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
  • Link equipment and soft goods used in the pheresis process to the appropriate donor.
  • Alert Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment.
  • Ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies.
  • Promote safety in all actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • Perform job-related duties as assigned.
