Customer Engineer

Merge DevNew York City, NY
69d$170,000 - $195,000

About The Position

Merge is looking for a Customer Engineer to join our Services team. Customer Engineers work directly with customers to deliver technical solutions that extend and implement Merge's product in real-world environments. You'll build integrations and product extensions that become part of Merge's reusable platform, while also supporting fully customized end-to-end implementations under customer-specific statements of work. This is a highly customer-facing engineering role: part builder, part consultant, part problem-solver. You'll partner with Solutions Architects, Partner Engineers, and Customer Success to ensure every implementation meets our standards, delivers value quickly, and scales for the long term.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer, solutions engineer, or forward deployed engineer building integrations, APIs, or platform extensions.
  • Customer-facing experience: Proven ability to work directly with enterprise customers, capture requirements, and translate them into deliverables.
  • Full-stack skills: Comfort working across APIs, back-end services, data transformations, and (occasionally) customer-facing workflows.
  • Strong collaboration: Ability to partner with cross-functional roles (Product, Partner Engineering, Solutions, Success) in a fast-paced environment.
  • Quality mindset: Skilled at writing clean, maintainable code and documentation with testing and monitoring baked in.
  • Excited by a role that mixes consulting, engineering, and delivery - no two projects are the same.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an API-first company, in integration platforms, or with systems integration work.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver product extensions within Merge's product repository that are standards-compliant, reusable, and aligned with existing categories.
  • Own end-to-end implementations that combine Merge product extensions with customer-specific code, ensuring smooth integration across environments, within scope, and delivered on time.
  • Collaborate directly with customers to understand business and technical requirements, translate them into scoped Statements of Work (SoWs), and execute on delivery.
  • Write high-quality, testable, and well-documented code across both Merge's repos and customer repos.
  • Contribute to reusable assets that accelerate future projects, including libraries, templates, and playbooks.

Benefits

  • Unlimited PTO + 10 company holidays
  • Pre-Tax commuter benefits
  • 100% covered health, vision, and dental insurance
  • 401K Plan
  • $200 one-time home office stipend
  • In office snacks and free dinner when working past 7pm
  • Annual company offsites and quarterly team events.
