About The Position

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Custom Engineer to join our engineering team in Greene, New York. This role is ideal for a Mechanical Engineer with experience in custom product design, manufacturing support, and configuration management. As a Custom Engineer, you will quote, design, develop, and document engineered-to-order solutions for new product sales and aftermarket modifications. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Product Development to deliver high-quality custom mechanical solutions that meet customer specifications and industry standards. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2+ years post-bachelor’s professional engineering experience in product design manufacturing engineering, or custom engineering.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software such as Creo or similar solid modeling platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working with bills of materials, engineering documentation, and configuration management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with all levels of the organization.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL query tools.
  • JDEdwards, eMatrix, or other ERP and PLM systems experience.
  • Knowledge of product configuration tools and maintenance of product configurators.
  • Prior project management experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment, material handling systems, or engineered-to-order products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new mechanical designs or modify existing designs based on specific customer requirements and engineered-to-order requests.
  • Create and maintain 3D models and detailed drawings using Creo.
  • Define and manage assembly bills of materials and component specifications within ERP systems such as JDEdwards.
  • Query historical design and configuration data using relational databases and SQL tools to ensure consistency across customer applications.
  • Verify that custom designs meet functional, safety, and regulatory requirements including UL and CE standards.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Operations to ensure design feasibility and cost efficiency.
  • Keep management informed of project progress, scope changes, priorities, and cost or schedule impacts.
  • Recommend design or project direction changes based on evolving business needs.
  • Support new product development initiatives and product configurator updates.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams and provide technical input for customer-specific solutions.
  • Assist in compiling project status updates and presenting findings to leadership when required.
