About The Position
The Custodian position at the YMCA of Greater Rochester is a full-time role that plays a crucial part in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the facility. Under the general direction of the Buildings & Grounds Director, the custodian is responsible for ensuring that both the interior and exterior of the facility are kept in excellent condition. This includes a variety of cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing different areas including bathrooms, offices, locker rooms, and hallways. The custodian is also expected to perform minor maintenance repairs and assist other departments with setup for meetings and special events. A key aspect of this role is relationship building; the custodian is expected to greet everyone by name whenever possible and extend thanks appropriately, making this a priority in their daily interactions. The custodian must also be available to work during shutdown periods if needed, and is responsible for restorative cleaning activities such as stripping and polishing floors and cleaning carpets. Additionally, the custodian will manage waste by emptying and cleaning trash containers, moving and dusting furniture, and ensuring that sidewalks are cleared of snow and salted during inclement weather. The custodian must report any damage or needed repairs to the supervisor and is responsible for using cleaning supplies efficiently and keeping cleaning closets organized. Interacting with staff, members, and the general public in a professional and courteous manner is essential, as is responding to emergencies according to their level of training. Attendance at mandatory training and meetings is required, along with the completion of any other assigned duties.
