About The Position

The Custodian provides general custodial/maintenance services for the district and reports to the Maintenance Department Building Manager and Building Principal.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required, college or trade school classes preferred.
Possess good habits, character and attendance records.
Be neat in appearance.
Be able to speak, read and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance.
Be capable and demonstrate the establishment and maintenance of harmonious effective relationships with staff, supervisors and co-workers.
Upon request, present a certificate signed by a licensed physician appointed by the school board verifying the physical ability to perform the job.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Possess a willingness to learn new job skills.
Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis to the assigned facility or worksite.
Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
Duties include frequent walking and physical activity.
The ability to move about the facility or building, including bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, or crouching to complete work-related tasks.
Must possess skills to safely operate a variety of tools and equipment.
Basic technology skills required to utilize computer and/or other office equipment (printer/copy machine, etc.) consistent with work-related tasks.
The ability to listen and effectively communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
The ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
The ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
The ability to work independently and maintain effective time management.
The ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress or conflict situations.
Occasionally moves boxes, equipment, and other supplies weighing up to 50 lbs across the building for various needs.
Must be available for on-call work, overtime and/or emergency overtime before and/or after regular scheduled workday, when necessary.
The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

Possess experience in custodial and maintenance work to carry out the assigned duties preferred.

Responsibilities

Sweeps, mops, and scrubs floors and other surfaces.
Cleans, renovates, and renews floor surface finishes.
Cleans and dusts furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings.
Cleans chalkboards, chalk rails, and erasers.
Washes/cleans light fixtures.
Replaces light bulbs/tubes and assists with ballasts as necessary.
Moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment.
Sweeps or shovels snow from steps, roofs, and walks at building entrances and salts icy steps and walks as necessary.
Collects, bags, and disposes of trash.
Locks/unlocks doors and windows to classrooms and offices.
Turns off unnecessary lighting.
Cleans and services lavatories, toilet rooms, and locker rooms.
Washes all interior and exterior glass including framed pictures, partitions, and doors.
Reports items that require repair.
Follows written work schedule.
Coordinates work with lead custodian and principal.
Assists with the operation of the school heating plant and equipment.
Guards property against fire, theft, and illegal entry; maintain building security.
Works from ladders, scaffolding, or swing stages.
Maintains and operates all equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.
Vacuums, spot cleans, and extracts carpet as necessary.
Performs all assigned duties in a manner which contributes to the safety and well being of the staff and buildings.
Ensures a high level of cleanliness and care is maintained for all district equipment.
Fully utilizes the district’s asset management/work order system to accurately track all costs, repairs, preventative maintenance, etc., related to the district’s assets.
Ensures appropriate equipment is asset tagged and tracked in individual work orders and within the system.
Performs all custodial/maintenance duties assigned by supervisors
