About The Position

Under general direction, the Custodian is responsible for the general care and cleaning of the building, grounds and equipment as assigned. The Custodian is also responsible for room set-up, event preparation, opening and closing procedures, and snow removal as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent GED
• Experience with cleaning equipment and products a plus

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of general cleaning practices
• Ability to communicate with manager and all levels of staff as may be needed
• Ability to work independently, following established procedures, taking responsibility for completing assigned workload

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning of building and grounds with a sensitivity to appearance and safety (including mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying of trash cans, cleaning restrooms, etc.)
• Check daily with Supervisor for housekeeping and service requests, to include room set-ups, deliveries, and any special needs
• Report any problems encountered to Supervisor
• Report needed information for which work orders might be prepared
• Report supply and equipment needs
• Perform ground duties, which may include snow removal, salting, emptying of trashcans, and picking up litter
• Perform Museum’s established closing procedures to include locking and securing the building following all safety and security guidelines
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
