About The Position

Under the supervision of the Maintenance & Custodial Director, the 2nd Shift Custodian is responsible for maintaining assigned school buildings, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas in a clean, orderly, and secure condition. The position plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and community members.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning techniques, materials, and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of proper use and care of cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting, moving, and handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic building maintenance practices.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe environment for students and staff.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to identify and report repair needs or safety hazards.
  • Ability to establish cooperative relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to operate custodial equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing ladders as needed.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Work may occur both indoors and outdoors, occasionally in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Clean restrooms, classrooms, hallways, offices, locker rooms, and other assigned areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, and buff floors; shampoo carpets as needed.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers; ensure proper sanitation and disposal.
  • Wash windows, walls, fixtures, and furniture; dust and polish surfaces.
  • Refill and restock restroom and cleaning supplies.
  • Set up and prepare rooms for meetings, events, and special activities.
  • Make minor repairs and report needed maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Secure doors, windows, and equipment; ensure building security after hours.
  • Operate and maintain custodial tools and equipment in safe working condition.
  • Assist with snow removal, grounds upkeep, and deliveries as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support district operations.
