About The Position

Loomis Chaffee is seeking an experienced full-time custodian to join our community Monday - Friday  7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  (Additional hours as specified).    Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:   Custodian is responsible for safe, professional, reliable, efficient, environmentally-sound, and cost- effective cleanliness of school's campus as directed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities typically associated with five (5) years of custodial and housekeeping experience.
  • Understanding of various cleaning techniques relating to bathrooms, floors (cement, wood, tile, carpet), housing, and dormitories. An understanding of set-ups and furniture(assembly/disassembly) .
  • Understanding of cleaning practices, policies, and standards.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning techniques and methods, sanitation and hygiene standards compliance, and best work methods/practices.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, industrial safety standards, and health/sanitation code compliance.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other personnel including subordinates, peers, superiors, vendors, contractors and other contacts.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from files, catalogs, reports, and manuals.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, have initiative, and be a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated good organizational/priority management skills, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to walking around campus, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms, lifting/carrying heavy objects and working in confined spaces.
  • Demonstrate proper judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, have initiative, and be a self-starter.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and effectively with other assigned personnel including faculty, contractors, and students.
  • Willingness to perform other work as required.
  • Have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and occasionally move/lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Have the ability to consistently stand/walk for up to 8hrs per day, frequently and repeatedly bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling.
  • Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Support the activities of the housekeeping staff, other personnel or contractors to ensure effective and efficient cleaning and service/special event support.
  • Responsibilities supporting campus services and mailroom.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, clean glass, remove graffiti and clean other surfaces to maintain a high level of sanitation and cleanliness.
  • Sweeping and mopping floors, corridors, stairs or archways, vacuum carpets.
  • Dust horizontal and vertical surfaces.
  • Polish stainless steel and silverware.
  • Restock cleaning and paper supplies as needed.
  • Emptying waste baskets, collects and disposes of rubbish.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting of all assigned areas.
  • Works with chemical cleaning agents daily.
  • Moving furniture and arranging chairs, tables and other equipment as necessary.
  • Monitoring and report all unsatisfactory school building and facility conditions.
  • Complete all tasks as assigned by policies, and standards.
  • Support the activities of the Physical Plant Department, staff, other personnel, and contractors to ensure effective and efficient cleanliness of campus facilities and mission of the School.
  • Availability for emergencies and “off-hour” work required some weekends.
  • Assist with snow clearing and removal.
  • Abide by all standards for safety and health guidelines, environmental regulations, quality, and productivity by following established policies and procedures.
  • Perform seasonal tasks as needed, including shoveling, clearing snow and ice from walks, stairs, and pathways.
  • Perform other work and additional duties as assigned, including assisting other Physical Plant operations to complete assignments and projects in support of the overall mission of the School.
