About The Position

The primary purpose of the Custodian position at Hernandez Elementary School is to follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in building operations. This role involves maintaining the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff through diligent cleaning and adherence to established procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic techniques of minor repairs and building systems and operations

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
  • Be responsible for efficient cleaning of assigned areas within the allotted time.
  • Cleaning assignments may include but not be limited to: floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, restrooms, buildings, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas.
  • Follow procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
  • Follow procedures for regulating heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.
  • Follow all safety instructions and procedures.
  • Report any safety hazards noted to supervisor.
  • Report emergencies or injuries to Lead Custodian or Associate Director of custodian Services immediately.
  • Comply with district procedures for the storage and disposal of trash.
  • Report needed building and equipment repairs to Lead Custodian.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency prior to use and report any problems to Lead Custodian.
  • Clean and properly store custodial equipment after use.
  • Assist and be responsible for maintaining sufficient supplies in your assigned area.
  • Work assigned schedules which are subject to change.
  • Train and properly operate tools and equipment.
  • Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
  • Attend training sessions and implement procedures taught.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all time.
  • Follow district policy concerning uniforms.
  • Be courteous and professional in dealing with others.
  • Comply with school district and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to perform all responsibilities and duties of the job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor which may include but are not limited to: minor maintenance of building and grounds, moving and/or assembling furniture, loading/unloading and distribution of supplies and equipment.
