About The Position

The custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment in classrooms, bathrooms, offices, kitchens, and all other areas of the building, as assigned. Cleaning of classrooms is scheduled to avoid hours when children occupy classrooms.

Requirements

  • Experience with non-residential cleaning is preferred
  • Experience using cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent vigorous cleaning.
  • High attention to detail, takes pride in space and work maintaining it.
  • Highly reliable and honest.
  • Excellent verbal (in-person and phone) and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, use a keyboard and climb stairs.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must have the ability to drive a personal vehicle and program vehicles, as needed.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of Criminal Offender Record check (C.O.R.I.) prior to hire and every three years.

Responsibilities

  • Empty and sanitize all trash receptacles and replace plastic liner bags in bathrooms, kitchen areas, classrooms and office spaces daily.
  • Sweep and/or vacuum all floors in classrooms, bathrooms, commercial kitchen, staff kitchenette and stairways daily. Upstairs spaces to be cleaned on a separate schedule, as assigned.
  • Disinfect floors in classroom, bathrooms, and food service/prep areas daily.
  • Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, bathroom stalls (inside and out) and walls daily.
  • Clean and disinfect classroom chairs weekly.
  • Replenish paper supplies and soaps daily.
  • Wash entry doors and windows and disinfect all door handles and railings.
  • Clean classroom walls and woodwork as needed.
  • Wash windows/windowsills periodically, as needed.
  • Maintain strict health and safety practices; store all cleaning tools and chemicals in safe and secure areas. Be sure chemical storage doors are latched/locked to ensure the safety of children.
  • Once per month provide the Site Director with a supplies order list for site (cleaning, soaps, and paper products).
  • Identify surfaces that have missing/cracked/peeling paint and report to Facilities. Complete touch up paint if requested.
  • Identify any other potential health and safety issues and report promptly to the Site Director.
  • Maintain good in-house relationships with other staff members.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Comply with agency and funders’ paperwork requirements and procedures.
  • Attend regularly scheduled supervision meetings, team meetings, mandatory agency training, and participate in professional development activities.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Adhere to agency confidentiality polices.
  • Maintain good in-house relationships with all other staff members.
  • Attend supervision meetings as scheduled.
  • Maintain written and phone communication with supervisor as needed.
  • Complete other reasonable duties as assigned.
