About The Position

The City of Bella Vista is seeking an experienced Custodian for our public safety building. The Custodian will perform work related to general custodial & light maintenance tasks under the control of the Bella Vista Police Department. The person in this role will be expected to regularly work 24 - 28 hours weekly. Hours and days may be flexible, candidate's availability and the needs of the city. $18.00 per hour The responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to the following: Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition. Performs routine maintenance activities such as changing filters and replacing lightbulbs. Notifies managers regarding need for repairs or additions to building operating systems. Performs heavy cleaning duties such as shampoo carpets. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, vacuums all areas of the building including public areas, offices, kitchens, restrooms, shower and locker rooms, fitness room, holding cells, and any other areas needing cleaning. Manages inventory of cleaning supplies. Keeps restroom and kitchen supplies stocked with products. Gathers and empties trash including from exterior of building. Cleans windows and doors, mirrors, door handles, fixtures, seating, etc. including in public areas. Cleans and maintains kitchen and breakroom areas including ovens and cooktops, microwaves, sinks, refrigerators, tables, countertops, coffee pots, etc. Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals according to instructions. Follows procedures for use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. May be required to spread ice melt and shovel ice and snow from walkways. May be required to occasionally drive vehicle to pick up supplies. Performs other duties as assigned. Position will report to the Bella Vista Police Department.

Requirements

Prior cleaning and maintenance experience preferred.
Knowledge of cleaning supplies needed to effectively perform work.
Ability to understand verbal and written directions.
Ability to use heavy-duty cleaning equipment.
Ability to work with others.
Strict adherence to safety requirements related to products and equipment being used.
Must be willing to undergo and pass extensive background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Upon hire, will be required to complete online certification to receive Criminal Justice Information Services certification.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited information and standardization may exist.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to maintain routine reports.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as simple addition and subtraction, calculate proportions, percentages, and volume.
REASONING Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited information and standardization may exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
