About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to perform routine, manual work cleaning and maintaining city buildings and facilities. As a municipal organization, the City of St. Marys is an emergency provider of services. Some emergency situations, including weather related emergencies, may necessitate City of St. Marys employees to assist in areas of work which may not be directly related to the employee’s specific job function, but which will be within the physical capabilities, training, and skills of the employee.

Requirements

Knowledge of procedures and equipment to be used in each cleaning operation.
Knowledge of locations and layouts of City buildings.
Knowledge of city safety policies and procedures and departmental rules and regulations.
Knowledge of the proper use of various cleaning chemicals.
Skill in understanding and following instructions.
Skill in operating cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, large trash cans, high-speed buffer, stripper machine.
High school diploma or equivalent required
More than two years of related experience required; or
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
Possession of a valid state driver’s license issued for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Responsibilities

Sweeps, mops, scrubs, buffs, waxes, and vacuums floor surfaces; schedules floor work to ensure least possible disruption of work routines in buildings and offices.
Daily cleans/disinfects bathroom toilets, urinals, sinks, counters, floors, walls, stalls, fills toilet paper, paper towels and soap dispensers and empties trash cans.
Clean and wash windows, walls, windowsills and screens as directed.
Dusts and cleans common areas of city facilities.
Daily cleans the lobby area of City Hall including the front entrance.
Daily collects recycle for offices.
Responsible for proper use of all equipment furnished to perform duties.
Responsible and accountable for inventory of cleaning supplies and paper products including toilet paper.
Performs emergency clean-up duties.
May perform a variety of minor repairs to toilets, doors, locking devices, equipment.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
