About The Position

The custodian is responsible for accomplishing a daily routine of custodial tasks that provides personnel, students, and the public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and conduct parish/school activities. Requirements

  • Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred supplemented by any previous experience demonstrating ability to safely and effectively operate standard facility custodial equipment.
  • Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English language.
  • Ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs custodial tasks, i.e., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting furniture; cleaning vents, fans, and walls.
  • Performs sanitizing tasks in various facility areas, i.e., restrooms, kitchen and food areas, cafeterias.
  • Performs physically demanding tasks requiring use of heavy custodial equipment, i.e., mopping, stripping, waxing, floor buffing.
  • Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Removes trash by emptying trash containers; transports materials to disposal area; recycles materials.
  • Uses appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and productively according to instructions and established State Department of Education regulatory to ensure personal, student, public, and staff safety.
  • Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, broken windows, broken locks.
  • Requisitions supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Moves heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually with assistance or by using hand trucks.
  • Sets up, arranges, or removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
