About The Position

The Custodian position is under the supervision of the Unit Manager in the PACE department. This temporary role requires performing general cleaning and maintenance functions in a safe and timely manner, along with clear communication. The position is non-exempt and requires 35 hours of work per week.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent degree.
  • Two years of experience in custodial work or as a handyman.
  • Current Massachusetts driver's license.
  • Ability to communicate with and work among other co-workers, supervisor and patients.
  • Ability to act independently and safely, according to procedure.
  • Ability to work outside and inside, spending most of the day 'on your feet' as well as stand, move, lift, and/or bend as needed to carry out job duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep and dry/wet mop floors.
  • Wax, buff, and strip floors.
  • Vacuum carpets.
  • Empty waste receptacles and replace waste disposal liners.
  • Clean lavatories and commodes.
  • Replace lavatory supplies; and clean sinks, glass work, walls, doors and tile work.
  • Dust/polish ledges, windows and furniture.
  • Move waste, medical waste, equipment and supplies within and outside of the buildings.
  • Receive incoming supplies and equipment.
  • Distribute incoming packages and supplies.
  • Clean and maintain custodial supply closets, notify supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Replace light bulbs, tubes and fluorescent lamps as needed.
  • Change water and air filters; and oil locks and hinges.
  • Notify supervisor of maintenance needs.
  • Paint/touch up areas as needed/directed.
  • Remove debris, snow, ice and water from building exits, ramps and gates.
  • Clean pavement; and handle planting, grass cutting, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and raking.
  • Take care of water, snow, or ice removal on the grounds.
  • Act as back-up for Security personnel, including opening, closing, and locking buildings; and inspecting the buildings and grounds.
  • File incident reports as needed.
  • Attend/participate in ongoing training modules and seminars.
  • Knowledge of pertinent policies and procedures.
  • Performance of other related duties as required.
