The Custodian Substitute position is responsible for performing routine custodial activities at assigned school sites or facilities to maintain cleanliness and order. This role involves various cleaning tasks, emergency cleanups, and ensuring the security of the premises. The position is temporary and requires physical labor and adherence to safety standards.

Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned school site or facility.
Participate in major summer cleaning projects as assigned.
Respond to emergency cleanups such as spills.
Maintain records of observed maintenance, repair needs, and safety issues.
Shovel, plow, and sand walks and steps as directed.
Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor strippers, and scrubbers.
Pack, unpack, load, receive, and store books, supplies, and materials.
Pick up and rake paper, trash, and debris around school grounds.
Sweep and clean walkways and entrances; dispose of trash according to established procedures.
Order supplies according to established guidelines.
Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate.
Clean venetian blinds, dust and polish furniture and woodwork.
Wash windows and walls; clean chalkboards and trays.
Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate authority.
Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, and showers.
Monitor gym events to assure orderly behavior.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate in more than one language or the willingness to learn.

High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial work.
Ability to perform routine custodial activities and heavy physical labor.
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of schedules, procedures, and equipment used in custodial work.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Hourly pay rate of $15.
Opportunity to participate in major summer cleaning projects.
