About The Position

CUSTODIAN SUBSTITUTE 2025-2026 School Year Montgomery County Public Schools is accepting applications for substitute custodian positions that may become available during the 2025-2026 school year. Please note: This is a “continuous recruit posting” to build an applicant pool for all schools. As positions become available, all qualified applicants with complete application files will be considered. Should a specific location/job be posted, you may also be required to apply to that posting. JOB DESCRIPTION: The custodian performs routine manual labor associated with the daily cleaning of buildings. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, vacuuming, dusting, waxing, removing trash, cleaning bathrooms, and polishing furniture.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or passing score on the literacy test given by MCPS
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring moderate physical strength
  • Ability to read basic operating instructions
  • Ability to cooperate with other staff members
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment
  • Dependability and punctuality required
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in support of students and school operations
  • Have the physical ability to repeatedly lift heavy objects (40+ lbs.) as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment
  • Previous custodial experience
  • Ability to use a computer and input data
