About The Position

Position is responsible for maintaining center buildings and grounds in top condition by developing work plans to accomplish maintenance and repair activities, assuring the availability of necessary tools, equipment and materials and minimal disruption to daily operation. Perform assembly and minor repair of equipment/furniture, painting, plumbing, lighting, and yard and window maintenance. Develops routine preventative maintenance schedules and maintains inventory. Distinguishing Characteristics Inspire Development Centers provides early Childhood Education (ECE) and social services to 3,110 children in center-based and home-based setting, at more than 25 Child Development Centers (CDC) throughout the State of Washington. At these sites, Inspire employs over 1,000 staff on a $52 million annual budget. Inspire provides these services under various federal and state funded programs with differing regulations and stipulations, which must be coordinated and adhered to, including, but not limited to: Regional Head Start (RHS), Migrant Seasonal Head Start (MSHS), Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP), and Early Head Start (EHS). The organization is required to meet an annual quota of non-federal share (in-kind) funds. A large majority of children’s first language is Spanish. Over the past 40 years, Inspire has strategically and incrementally increased its capacity to address the rapidly changing needs of its families and communities. Supervisory and Other Relationships The Custodian/Maintenance reports to the Center Manager and works closely with Center Staff, Parents and work with and around children.

Requirements

  • General Educational Development (GED) certificate, or obtain within the first year of employment
  • Extensive knowledge in building maintenance and custodial practices

  • Must provide a yearly driving abstract

  • Must pass initial and periodic background check
  • MMR immunization record or proof of immunity
  • Must pass initial and periodic employee health clearance; (present it within forty-five (45) days of employment)
  • Current Food Handler card; (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment)
  • Current First Aid / CPR cards, (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment)
  • Subject to initial and periodic TB screen
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV / AIDS) training, (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment)

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning, and disinfecting classrooms, restrooms, kitchen and other common areas.
  • Responsible for disposing of all garbage and disinfecting wastebaskets or garbage cans daily.
  • Maintain equipment and facility cleanliness, ensuring all tools and machinery are in safe and working condition and perform floor and carpet care as needed.
  • Responsible to keep sidewalks, parking lots, and playground areas safe by addressing potential hazards.
  • Secure all doors and windows before closing the center. and immediately report any unsafe equipment to the Center Manager.
  • Responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs and upkeep on exterior buildings and outdoor areas to ensure a safe and well-maintained facility.
  • Constructs, erects, and installs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard using carpenter’s hand and power tools, to include but not limited to children’s outdoor play equipment and appropriate fall zones for each structure.
  • Be familiar with the Hazardous Materials training Program and adhere to all safety protocols related to the use, handling, and storage of chemicals, cleaning supplies, and materials.
  • Ensure that all chemicals and cleaning products are stored securely in childproof cabinets or designated storerooms.
  • Maintain awareness of safety guidelines and refer to the Safety Binder located on-site for detailed instructions and protocols regarding hazardous materials and overall workplace safety.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining inventories of janitorial supplies, regularly monitoring stock levels, and notifying the Center Manager of any items that need to be reordered.
  • Assist the Head cook and/or cook with organizing and storing groceries and inventory.
  • Shows interest in furthering professional growth by attending staff meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars.
  • Review and understand all center policies and procedures regarding the safety of children ensuring compliance with established protocols.
  • Maintains confidentiality of program and client related information at all times.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
