About The Position

Assists with the operations and functions of the Department of Plant Operations/Cookeville Center primarily to keep buildings and surrounding areas clean and well maintained. Performing heavy custodial tasks such as buffing and stripping, perform maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs, changing ballasts, toilet repairs, painting, drywall repair, installation of signs, maintaining the exterior of buildings such as sidewalks, benches, parking areas, trimming trees, sprinkler system and ramps.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to change light bulbs, work on toilets, work on sinks, and replace light ballasts.
  • Ability to operate vacuums, slow speed buffer, high speed buffer, weed eater, hedge trimmer, and tree pruner.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures to include disposal procedures of hazardous materials.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures to include Lock Out/Tag Out.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to use computer to read e-mail, fill out timesheets and to complete required safety/Human Resource training.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year verifiable general building maintenance experience.
  • Custodial/janitorial experience in a business or education environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine cleaning tasks, such as vacuuming carpets, dusting, assists in moving and arranging of furniture and equipment.
  • Cleans interior glass, wall partitions and interior and exterior windows.
  • Operates the following equipment: Scrubber, slow speed buffer, high speed buffer, carpet cleaner, pressure washer and other electrical, gas and manually operated equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment, restrooms, and various other light maintenance duties.
  • Works as a carpenter, plumber, HVAC, and changes filters on a preset schedule.
  • Maintains tools in an organized and clean condition.
  • Performs primary daily functions of cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Ensures proper care, use, and performs routine maintenance on equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and good environmental practices.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Works well with other custodian toward the timely accomplishment of group projects and team set-ups.
  • Other duties as assigned.
