About The Position

Job Summary: The function and purpose is to perform advanced custodial tasks in order to maintain the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of UREC facilities. Normal work hours for this position are from 3:30 pm - 12:00 am. Job Responsibilities: 40%: Serves as lead custodian by providing training and guidance to Custodian II positions. Performs floor maintenance and other special cleaning tasks such as tripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning using industrial grade machines; Performs stain removal on carpets and resilient floors; strips floor using chemical stripper; scrubs, spray buff, and burnishers. Cleans the following areas: restrooms, offices, classrooms, stairwells, elevators, hallways, and other assigned areas. This could include but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing; Mixing or blending routine cleaning solutions to proper concentrations, as necessary for each task, based on manufacturer recommendations. 30%: Empties trash and recycling containers, transports waste material to outdoor refuse containers or recycling containers as appropriate; Cleans, decontaminates, and deodorizes waste containers using proper materials according to manufacturer recommendations. This applies to all indoor and outdoor receptacles. 20%: Makes recommendations on scheduling, reviewing work of Custodian II positions as well as inventories custodial supplies and make suggestions on what supplies need to be ordered. 5%: Willingly shares all information with department teammates in an effort to provide high quality outcomes that contribute to student success. Maintains positive co-worker relationships and foster an environment of trust and inclusion. Produces all documentation related to fund expenditures required by the business office. Provides feedback regarding the safety of programs, equipment, and facilities. This is accomplished by conducting daily observations and/or by engaging in programs and using equipment and facilities. Immediately report safety concerns to the functional area supervisor. Contribute positively to the work environment by participating in honest dialog that is indicative of the department’s culture of teamwork. Represent University Recreation for various university and community functions and committee work and other duties as assigned. 5%: Unlocks/locks areas within the building based on assigned room; The employee is responsible for all assigned keys per departmental process. If keys are lost or stolen, then based on the type of key, the employee could be responsible for any costs associated.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in custodial, housekeeping, grounds keeping, or food service work.
