Explore more details on the Benefits of Working at HHS webpage. The Lead Custodian III performs highly complex (senior-level) custodial work. Responsibilities include performing, coordinating, cleaning, and sanitizing state hospital buildings and treatment units; providing housekeeping services in a clinical setting, which also involves conducting inspections of the buildings and equipment. The Custodian III orders and restocks supplies and equipment and provides backup to other custodians as needed. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in custodial/housekeeping in custodial or environmental services work in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel or other similar residential equivalent OR eighteen (18) months proven work experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures to include how to dust, sweep and mop.
  • Knowledge of how to strip and wax floors.
  • Knowledge of how to clean and disinfect restrooms and shower stalls.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
  • Skills in the use of custodial materials and chemicals, and in the operation of custodial equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
  • Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co-workers and patients.

Responsibilities

  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and maintains records of the supplies used, and building property maintenance tools/equipment.
  • Coordinates and performs the cleaning, dusting, and disinfecting restrooms, all office surfaces/furniture, treatment areas, patient bedrooms, and other hospital areas, utilizing cleaning chemicals as needed.
  • Ensures all patient units meet or exceed the minimum standard guidelines for cleanliness, health and safety, and infection control.
  • Inspects the buildings and identifies any problem areas in need of follow up, and ensures follow-up occurs.
  • Assists the Custodian Manager in implementing the overall hospital safety and infection control program.
