About The Position

The position involves performing and completing all custodial tasks, which include sweeping, buffing, stripping and waxing floors, vacuuming carpeting, shampooing, removing spots and stains, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture, scrubbing and washing kitchen fixtures, cleaning blinds, cleaning restrooms, replacing toilet paper and soaps, washing and polishing bathroom fixtures, picking up paper and debris in the building and on the grounds, replacing light bulbs, transporting and emptying large trash containers into outdoor units, and cleaning containers. Additionally, the role requires shoveling snow, mowing lawns, trimming shrubbery, and ensuring the safety and security of the school building by securing it at night when necessary. The employee must protect themselves and others from potential hazards associated with cleaning tasks, including exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other body fluids, and must use safe and effective cleaning and disposal methods. The position also requires the ability to operate and maintain custodial equipment properly and to work cooperatively with the head custodian and custodial staff.

Requirements

  • Completion of the sixth grade.
  • Some building cleaning experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Excellent skills in human relations.
  • Willingness and ability to adjust work schedule as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Some commercial building cleaning experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and complete all custodial tasks including sweeping, buffing, stripping and waxing floors, vacuuming carpeting, and shampooing.
  • Remove spots and stains, wash windows and walls, dust and polish furniture.
  • Scrub and wash kitchen fixtures, clean blinds, and clean restrooms.
  • Replace toilet paper and soaps, wash and polish bathroom fixtures.
  • Pick up paper and debris in the building and on the grounds.
  • Replace light bulbs and transport and empty large trash containers into outdoor units.
  • Shovel snow, mow lawns, and trim shrubbery.
  • Protect self and others from potential hazards from exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other body fluids.
  • Use cleaning materials and equipment economically and efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment properly.
  • Work cooperatively with head custodian and custodial staff.
  • Initiate independent work and cleaning activities unsupervised.
  • Move heavy objects such as cafeteria tables and bookcases.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the school building.
