About The Position

University Housing & Dining is seeking to hire a Custodian II to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment in all residence halls. Under general supervision, this role assigns, reviews, coordinates and inspects custodial activities in the area of assignment in accordance with established guidelines. The Division of Student Life, which includes 15 departments, fosters student success by creating and promoting educationally purposeful services and activities within and beyond the classroom. Staff in this division embrace new ideas, work together to keep students safe, and provide life-changing experiences.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and follow directions.
  • One year of custodial or related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Driving Record Review Standards.

  • Ability to maintain and exercise a high level of confidentiality and professional communication.
  • Knowledge and experience using computers, tablets, and related software.
  • Experience cleaning commercial environments using commercial equipment in areas such as residence halls, hotels, hospitals, or nursing homes.
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning techniques for a variety of surfaces and materials.
  • Physical ability to move heavy objects (50+ lbs) properly and safely, and remain on your feet for the duration of the shift.
  • Experience inspecting a variety of areas, including eye wash stations, washers/dryers, vandalism locations, and battery systems (including proper filling techniques).
  • Demonstrated experience completing assigned projects from start to finish with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Performing front-line custodial duties.
  • Receiving written and oral instructions concerning general custodial duties/staff.
  • Developing work schedules and directing and inspecting daily work routines of other custodial staff.
  • Assisting in planning procedures and work methods and advising or recommending revisions for the purposes of improving the efficiency of operations and services.
  • Interviewing and recommending the hiring of custodial personnel as requested.
  • Communication with supervisor, leadership team and staff.
  • Ability to perform all processes required by the department and use all equipment provided to perform duties.
  • Maintaining records and inventory of multiple items including but not limited to time records, scheduling, staffing, etc.
