About The Position

Assumes responsibility and/or management for security/maintenance/cleanliness and functionality of the school's buildings and grounds.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of facilities and/or custodial maintenance related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and participates in the general cleaning of the school building: offices, corridors, classrooms, toilets, non-instructional and instructional areas.
  • Supervises school year housekeepers assigned to the building, as well as seasonal housekeeping staff assigned to the school.
  • Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the building, knows the alarm system and assists in the annual check of the fire equipment/systems.
  • Performs necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and general mechanical areas.
  • Assists in maintaining all boilers, condensing units, exhaust fans, unit ventilators and other major HVAC equipment.
  • Supervises and performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, weed whacking, tree trimming, leaf blowing and removal, cleaning and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
  • Supervises and performs snow removal: shovels, plows and/or salts walks, driveways, parking areas and steps, as appropriate.
  • Utilizes the Electronic Facilities Calendar on a daily basis to understand the department's daily, weekly and/or monthly events and scheduling, including all contractor/vendor service calls, department/individual meetings and events requiring services within the school.
  • Utilizes the IncidentIQ platform on a daily basis to review, complete and sign-off on all assigned work orders and preventative maintenance assignments.
  • Assumes responsibility for the general security of the district school buildings coordinating the lockup and arming of buildings at the end of the evening while securing all doors and windows, and that all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
  • Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and orders needed replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the operation of the schools.
  • Conducts an ongoing program of general and preventative maintenance, upkeep and repair of all facets of the facility.
  • Moves furniture or equipment and prepares building facilities as required for various activities and as directed.
  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
  • Reports immediately to the Director of Facilities major repairs needed or any damage to school property.
  • Provides custodial care, as scheduled, during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized by the Director of Facilities and requires custodial attendance.
  • Provides input to budget, both short and long term, as requested to the Director of Facilities.
  • Responds to emergency situations in school buildings such as power failure, plumbing, heating or vandalism, as directed by the Director of Facilities.
  • Provides custodial functions as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate and required.
