About The Position

SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to clean and disinfect assigned areas on a daily basis which includes exam tables, waiting room chairs, restroom fixtures, counter tops, medical stands, and exam rooms sinks. The position reports to the Nespelem Clinic Facilities Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs a full range of housekeeping duties including vacuum and shampoo carpet, sweep, mop, wax and polish floors, wash walls. Maintain power equipment. Takes care of tasks within the framework of the general housekeeping schedule and maintains cleanliness and sanitation required to meet standards for the health facilities Insure that Infection Control standards and sanitary conditions for patients are met. Oversee collecting, storing segregating, moving and labeling hazardous waste. Follow and comply with safety and housekeeping rules of the Service Unit, Tribal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA), and Infection Control standards. Follow written and oral orders. Work alone in all cleaning duties without instruction. Contact supervisor for unusual situations. Distribute and balance own workload in accordance with established flow and job specialization. Monitor status of work and make day to day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Resolve simple and informal issues or complaints with other staff members in timely manner before reporting it to the supervisor. Promotes the environment where actions reflect good security and private practices in the use of the computer system. Ensure that all training has been completed in a timely manner including EEO Awareness and Computer Security Awareness Training is completed in a timely matter. In accordance with the requirement of the Indian Health Service Manual, Part 1, Chapter 12, incumbents of this position, as a condition of employment, must document immunity to Rubella & Measles. Influenza vaccine is recommended for all health workers in contact with patients. The employee is required to operate a government owned or leased motor vehicle, commercial motor vehicle, rental motor vehicle or privately owned motor vehicle in the performance of official duties. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The incumbent must know proper principles for providing customer and personal services The incumbent must know cleaning techniques and proper use of chemicals and solutions for the following tasks: Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, and other work areas so that health standards are met. Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and shampooers. Empty wastebaskets, and transport other trash and bio waste to disposal areas. Sweep, scrub, wax, and/or polish floors, using brooms, mops, and powered scrubbing and waxing machines. Dust and polish furniture and equipment. Keep storage areas and carts well stocked, clean, and tidy. Polish silver accessories and metalwork such as fixtures and fittings. Remove debris from parking lot. Replenish supplies such as bathroom items. Incumbent must become familiar with and abide by service unit policies including needle disposal, infectious waste disposal. Incumbent must know how to apply the disinfectant to surfaces, and wiping the disinfectant from surfaces. Incumbent must have knowledge of cleaning equipment operation such as wet or dry vacuum, polisher/scrubber and carpet shampooer. Proper cleaning techniques are required when vacuuming and shampooing carpet and when dust mopping, wet mopping and buffing floors. These techniques include thoroughly vacuuming carpet before shampooing and removing dirt from floor before buffing. The incumbent must know when to make adjustments to equipment Moves and controls heavy powered equipment; carries, sets up, climbs and works item ladders; frequent lifts and moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds Works primarily indoors, but occasionally outdoors when shoveling snow. Is exposed to chemicals, cuts, bruises and injuries from falling. Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing. TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED. If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
