About The Position

The Custodian position at Haywood County Consolidated Schools involves performing general custodial and light groundskeeping work to maintain school buildings and facilities. The role requires cleaning various areas, managing supplies, and ensuring a safe and clean environment for students and staff under the supervision of the Principal.

Requirements

• Some experience in custodial work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina.
• Ability to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, and leaf blowers.
• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Nice To Haves

• General knowledge of standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in janitorial work.
• Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materials.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, and buff floor surfaces.
• Clean restroom areas and replenish paper supplies and soap as necessary.
• Clean windows, walls, woodwork, blinds, and light fixtures.
• Dust and clean desks and other furniture.
• Empty trash receptacles and deposit recyclable material in proper receptacles.
• Sweep sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings and police grounds by picking up debris.
• Shovel snow and/or apply de-icing compounds to walkways and driveways as necessary.
• Replace burned-out light bulbs.
• Prepare requisition forms to obtain necessary supplies for the coming work week.
• Raise and lower flags at the start and end of the workday.
• Open and secure buildings at the start and end of the workday, and adjust heating or air conditioning as appropriate.

Benefits

• Hourly wage of $15.60 per hour.
• Temporary position ending on 8/13/24.
