About The Position

The Custodian position at San Leandro Unified School District involves performing routine cleaning work in various school, office, or recreation buildings under supervision. Requirements

• One full year of full-time paid experience in janitorial work.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

• Familiarity with the tools and basic practices of building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish linoleum, tile, and wood floors.
• Vacuum rugs and carpets.
• Clean offices, nurses and faculty rooms, classrooms, shop buildings, gymnasiums, libraries, recreation rooms, auditoriums, dining rooms, cafeterias, hallways, ramps, and stairways under the direction of the Head Custodian.
• Dust walls, furniture, woodwork, hall lockers, and other equipment.
• Pick up paper and refuse on grounds and sweep walks and entrances.
• Wash, scrub, and disinfect restrooms and shower rooms.
• Clean windows, door glass, and drinking fountains.
• Clean and polish metal work such as door panels and hand railings.
• Empty and clean waste containers.
• Light and turn off room heaters and hot water heaters as needed.
• Assist in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture, and other equipment.
• Replace light globes and make minor repairs or adjustments in classroom furniture.
• Maintain equipment used in the course of work and report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.
• Assist in the restoration of buildings and grounds during summer vacation.
• May assist in grounds keeping or as a helper to a skilled maintenance worker.
• Operate and service swimming pool filters, pumps, and chlorinators where applicable; test pool water for pH and chlorine content; keep water at proper temperature; vacuum pool to remove dirt and foreign objects; clean pool area.
