About The Position

The Custodian position is responsible for maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in building operations and grounds. This role involves routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to ensure a safe and clean environment for students and staff. The custodian will report directly to the Campus Principal/Administrator and is expected to perform various cleaning, maintenance, and safety tasks as part of their daily responsibilities.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED (requirement may be waived with board approval).
• Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment.
• Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a cleaning schedule that includes cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
• Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play supplies, clean as needed.
• Assist with lunchroom setup, including arranging tables and chairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
• Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
• Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to the principal.
• Move furniture or equipment within buildings as directed by the principal.
• Assist in setting up facilities for special events.
• Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
• Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
• Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
