About The Position

The Custodial Worker position is located within the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), specifically in the House Office Buildings, Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch. This role involves performing a wide range of cleaning and custodial duties across various assigned areas, including hallways, offices, public spaces, storage areas, restrooms, and restaurant facilities within the House Office Buildings. The selected individual will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, ensuring that all areas are well-kept and presentable for staff and visitors alike. The work schedule for this position is full-time, with a tour of duty ranging from 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., although hours may vary based on operational needs. This position is classified as emergency essential, meaning that the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. The Custodial Worker will utilize various cleaning equipment and chemicals to perform their duties, including power equipment for cleaning surfaces such as carpeting, linoleum, tile, wood, and marble. Responsibilities also include the collection and sorting of recyclable materials, maintaining stock levels of cleaning supplies, and reporting any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor. Candidates must be able to pass a drug test and meet specific eligibility requirements, including being a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident seeking citizenship. There are no educational requirements for this position, but candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform the work with minimal supervision.
