About The Position

This is moderately heavy manual work which involves routine housekeeping and domestic tasks of various buildings. Primary responsibilities include the use of proper methods and materials in cleaning and otherwise caring for buildings and equipment. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Foreman.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Entry Level Position to show demonstrated proficiency and increasing knowledge of job responsibilities and requirements during the 6-month probation period
  • 6 months related experience preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License may be required for specific custodian assignment
  • Knowledge of the materials, chemicals, methods, and equipment typically used in janitorial work
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to understand and adhere to Safety Data Sheets, (SDS) and labels used for chemicals
  • Ability to learn the duties of a custodian
  • Ability to understand and follow simple instructions
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment
  • Ability to perform heavy manual routine custodial tasks
  • Ability to work on ladders and off the ground

Responsibilities

  • Scrubs, mops, waxes, and polishes floors; vacuums, shampoos, and spot-cleans carpets
  • Sweeps and cleans sidewalks, porches, and front entrances
  • Changes trash and refuse containers; takes trash to specified locations for disposal
  • Washes windows and woodwork
  • Cleans tables in eating areas, kitchen areas, and cleans and polishes furniture
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms and fixtures, telephones, and water fountains
  • Dusts shelves, wall hangings, blinds, fans, and light fixtures and replaces light bulbs
  • Performs minor repair work
  • Sprays for bugs and other insects
  • May move office furniture and equipment as directed
  • Picks up debris around buildings
  • Assists in loading and unloading equipment
  • Assists in rigging of stage equipment and props
  • Assists in floor plan set-ups and take-downs for events
  • Operates room dividers and adjusts seating
  • Performs related work as required.
