About The Position

The Dundee Township Park District is seeking a Custodial Supervisor to oversee custodial staff, maintain facilities, and ensure buildings meet the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. This role involves leading a team of custodial professionals while actively participating in daily cleaning and maintenance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who takes pride in keeping buildings clean, safe, and welcoming, and enjoys supervising staff while staying involved in day-to-day custodial operations. The position contributes to a safe and welcoming environment that respects cultural diversity and requires developing positive working relationships with staff and patrons, providing excellent customer service, and communicating issues and recommendations promptly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in custodial or building maintenance.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning practices.
  • Illinois Class D Driver’s License.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including use of tools and machinery.
  • Ability to work independently and pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Physical capability to lift, bend, squat, and perform manual labor as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily custodial duties and provide hands-on support to staff.
  • Conduct regular and preventative maintenance on facilities, equipment, and machinery.
  • Inspect building areas, equipment, and custodial work, recommending and directing corrective measures as needed.
  • Arrange rooms for meetings, special events, and programs.
  • Maintain inventories, order supplies, and ensure proper distribution of equipment.
  • Contribute to a safe and welcoming environment that respects cultural diversity.
  • Plan, assign, and supervise custodial staff to ensure high-quality service.
  • Conduct performance feedback and contribute to performance appraisals.
  • Recruit, hire, and train custodial personnel in collaboration with Human Resources and management.
  • Monitor employee attendance, review time records, and ensure compliance with departmental policies.
  • Ensure compliance with budgetary limits and recommend cost-saving procedures.
  • Monitor operations to maintain service quality while controlling expenses.
  • Develop positive working relationships with staff and patrons.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Communicate issues, recommendations, and feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain knowledge of all safety rules and procedures.
  • Report work-related injuries, unsafe conditions, and accidents promptly.
  • Correct hazards when possible and instruct co-workers on safe practices.
