About The Position

The Custodial Services Supervisor leads and supports the custodial team, ensuring high cleaning standards and fostering a positive, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities include training, coaching, and mentoring staff, conducting shift meetings, and providing spiritual encouragement. The supervisor manages schedules, attendance, and performance, addressing issues as they arise.

Requirements

  • Possess 3 to 5 years or more of janitorial or custodial experience, preferably in an institution setting, though not a requirement.
  • Possess 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in the janitorial or custodial field or equivalent.
  • A combination of education and experience can be substituted.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of hire date.
  • Ability to fill in for Custodians and perform their work responsibilities during illness, vacation, or other absences.
  • Ability to promote infection control and dealing effectively with pest infestations.
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift, carry, pull, or push up to 50 pounds while using proper universal lifting and carrying techniques.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements including handling cleaners, solvents, and chemicals.
  • Possess typing skills and experience working with computers.
  • Ability to work independently and proficiently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to engage with individuals who are homeless and work well with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work respectfully and professionally with program residents.
  • Experience with applying verbal de-escalation skills – additional training will be provided.
  • Possess characteristics of leadership.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and respond to emergency situations.
  • Must have a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct.
  • Active driver’s license as a limited amount of work-related travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and supervises Custodians who are performing their work duties in Custodial Services.
  • Trains and reinforces standard DRM work processes and methods.
  • Provides on-the-job coaching to grow and develop soft skills (Humble, Hungry and Smart).
  • Provides spiritual encouragement to Custodial Services staff.
  • Brings any areas of concern to the attention of the Manager of Custodial Services.
  • Hires and onboards new employees; conducts weekly meetings, both individual and group; addresses performance issues, including assisting with the annual performance review process.
  • Conducts daily shift meetings to set priorities for the shift and provide a devotional time with the team.
  • Schedules and monitors custodial staff shifts and attendance.
  • Fills in for custodians who are sick, on vacation or otherwise miss work.
  • Pursues continuous improvement in cleanliness.
  • Identifies and implements standards for recurring processes on daily, weekly, monthly, or annual schedules, as applicable.
  • Focuses on high-impact or high-risk aspects of Custodial Services.
  • Adjusts the frequency and method of cleaning to ensure sanitary and clean condition of the facilities.
  • Oversees daily cleaning of restrooms, showers, and dressing rooms.
  • Applies best practices to ensure work performed meets specifications and established standards.
  • Uses custodial equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Oversees cleaning of floors in all areas using custodial equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Oversees the proper disposal of waste.
  • Complies with Health Department regulations.
  • Ensures proper disposal of biohazard and sharps waste.
  • Coordinates recycling as applicable.
  • Ensures litter is picked up and disposed of on a timely basis in all areas of the facilities.
  • Monitors inventory of custodial supplies and maintains pars as set by Manager of Custodial Services for the location.
  • Orders supplies in the absence of the Manager of Custodial Services.
  • Upkeeps Safety Data Sheets and HAZCOM procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Tracks and monitors inventory to avoid abuse or theft.
  • Oversees snow removal on sidewalks.
  • Ensures prompt removal of snow in accordance with City of Denver requirements to prevent ice build-up.
  • Applies de-icing chemicals as required.
  • Oversees scheduled power washing of outdoor sidewalks and alley adjacent to or in the facilities and ensures surrounding grounds are kept free of weeds, cigarette butts, litter, personal possessions of outside guests, etc.
  • Oversees scheduled cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting of bunk beds, mattresses, and floor mats.
  • Oversees scheduled cleaning of both interior and exterior glass windows and doors.
  • Oversees scheduled cleaning and disinfection of walls, baseboards, doors, door handles, stairways and railings, elevators, seating and tables, countertop surfaces, etc. to remove stains, smudges, dirt, germs, etc.
  • Oversees the daily laundry of bedding, towels, etc.
  • Oversees light repairs and maintenance and coordinates with Facilities Maintenance Supervisor for heavy repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Other duties as required by the Manager of Custodial Services or Director of Custodial Services.
