About The Position

Under general directions from the Associate Director of Grounds and Custodial Services, the Custodial supervisor is responsible for supervising and administering the day to day custodial operation that includes daily and weekly planning and coordinating all cleaning services. The incumbent works independently scheduling, assignment, inspecting, and evaluating the work of others, ensuring that facilities are cleaned and well-maintained. The incumbent may oversee the work activities of evening and weekend shifts with the authority to make needed changes to accomplish cleaning maintenance goals, taking operational charge of the department in the absence of the Manager.

Requirements

  • Required skills include a thorough knowledge of custodial equipment and the ability to teach and train a large diverse staff on the proper and safe use of associated equipment.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of modern custodial cleaning methodologies/operations and the ability to teach and train a large diverse work force.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License, a safe driving record, and must possess the ability to follow all campus driving ordinances.
  • Must have working knowledge of desktop software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and email, and thorough knowledge of the computerized maintenance management system (AiM), which includes work order creation, closing and current schedule monitoring.
  • Must be able to communicate and follow instructions, to include instructions on daily calendars, space reservations forms, communication logs, IIPP Safety information, work orders, product labels, MSD sheets, schedules and job descriptions.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with a diverse campus community of students, faculty and staff.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively using all available technology.
  • Must be able remain calm and poised during stressful situations.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.

  • Extensive knowledge in custodial cleaning methodologies/operations; solving problems; understanding workflow procedures, encouraging staff
  • Previous experience leading a custodial team in an institutional environment.
