About The Position

The Custodial Supervisor at UC Irvine is part of the Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) and Facilities Management, which supports the campus mission by creating a safe, reliable, and clean physical environment for over 36,000 students, faculty, and staff across a 1,475-acre main campus. This role involves planning, assigning, and supervising the work and training of Senior Custodians and Night Custodians across multiple shifts. The supervisor is responsible for cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance tasks, making ordinary decisions, and planning work schedules and methods. While major assignments come with specific instructions, the incumbent is expected to have full knowledge of their functional area and instruct direct reports using established guidelines and policies.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge in custodial and housekeeping services.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, flexibility, critical thinking, multi-tasking, and time management.
  • Working knowledge of and ability for decision making, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and perform operations analysis, and quality control analysis.
  • Working knowledge and skill in effective interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other personnel.
  • Basic computer application skills.
  • Knowledge and experience to perform typical and specialized cleaning of recreation facilities, restrooms, wood floors, rubber floors and carpeted spaces.
  • Knowledge of floor scrubbers, vacuums, carpet machines and other mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Knowledge of appropriate hazardous waste disposal policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge and experience in workforce reorganization, work loading, productivity analysis, planning, and determining appropriate custodial staffing models, work methods, equipment, materials and safety practices.
  • High school diploma and / or equivalent certification / experience / training.
  • Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and participation in DMV pull-notice program.
  • Must be able to work outside of regularly scheduled shift.
  • Must be able to drive a FM vehicle.
  • Must be able to wear PPE.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.
  • Compliance with Background Check and Live Scan.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work and training of Senior Custodians and Night Custodians on multiple shifts engaged in cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance tasks.
  • Instruct direct reports to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Make ordinary decisions and plan work schedules and methods.
  • Provide on-call assistance when necessary.
