The Operations & Facilities Management Department (OFMD) at WashU Medicine provides essential services that sustain the medical campus’ mission of excellence in patient care, research, and education. Supervises the daily routine of custodial employees assigned to the area, assigns schedules/routes, and addresses coverage problems. Serves as the working lead to ensure all job tasks are completed daily; observes work performance, both in quality and quantity; identifies training needs; and advises the custodial manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • No specific certification/professional license is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Team Leader for safety to discuss and provide proper PPE to custodial staff.
  • Conducts regular team meetings.
  • Canvass all areas daily, conducting spot checks for thoroughness and quality.
  • Supervises and trains custodial workers on such tasks as: general cleaning; stripping and waxing floors; buffing floors; extracting carpets; reporting progress to the manager.
  • Perform custodial inspections to ensure the quality of work in the assigned area.
  • Perform building inspections to ensure overall quality (cleanliness, cosmetics, repairs, etc.).
  • Compile a weekly list of supplies needed.
  • Order and distribute cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Ensure all keys and pagers are checked in and out in accordance with department procedures.
  • Learn and apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures, and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.
  • Works with the supervisor on staffing, paperwork, scheduling issues, and monthly quality assurance inspections.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels, both orally and in writing.
  • Instruct assigned personnel on the proper execution of their responsibilities.
  • Assign and review the work of direct report custodial staff.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
  • Assist the manager with continuous training for current employees.
  • Act as a manager in the absence of a manager.
  • Attend leadership training courses as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
