Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department. The Housekeeping Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Custodial Specialist I. This role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of campus buildings, ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for the campus community.

Requirements

  • Completion of 9th grade. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219 .
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license.
  • The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
  • UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, calculation, reading, evaluating, comprehension, and organizing.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year of previous work experience in a custodial or similar role.
  • Ability to use small and large tools for essential tasks (floor care equipment, mop/mop bucket, dust mop, broom, scrub pad, radio, etc.).
  • Experience with standard office software applications and devices for work order systems (IWMS).
  • Able to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (iPad for Integrated Work Management Systems PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices (applies to weekend positions only).
  • Adaptable to work assignments and flexible for urgent trade requirements.
  • Ability to comprehend safety guidelines and use approved chemicals by Environmental Health & Safety to perform essential job functions.
  • Capable of operating a fleet vehicle as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and stock common areas, including restrooms, sinks, showers/tubs, toilets, stalls, receptacles, mirrors, windows, and entryways.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas, including moving and replacing furniture, and spot cleaning.
  • Sweep and dry/wet mop floors, stairwells, entryways, and other areas.
  • Perform surface cleaning, including dusting, wiping, and scrubbing of furniture, walls, equipment, and kitchen appliances.
  • Remove trash and recycling from designated areas.
  • Shampoo/extract carpeted areas and upholsteries.
  • Refinish flooring through stripping, waxing, and buffing (including tile, VCT, etc.).
