About The Position

The Custodian I - Electrician position at Windsor Locks Public Schools involves responsibility and management for the security, maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality of the school's buildings and grounds. The role requires supervising cleaning staff, performing electrical work, and ensuring fire safety and general repairs.

Requirements

  • Must have an E2 Electrician License

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and participates in the general cleaning of the school building: offices, corridors, classrooms, toilets, non-instructional and instructional areas.
  • Performs electrical work in the district.
  • Supervises Custodian II staff and housekeepers.
  • Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the building, knows the alarm system and insures that an annual check of the fire equipment is conducted.
  • Performs necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and general mechanical areas.
  • Assists in maintaining grounds equipment such as tractors in functional and effective condition.
  • Supervises and performs yard keeping chores such as grass cutting, tree trimming, cleaning and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
  • Supervises and performs snow removal: shovels, plows and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps, as appropriate.
  • Assumes responsibility for the general security of the building coordinating the opening and closing of the building each school day and insures that the evening custodians secure all doors and windows, and that all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
  • Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and orders needed replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the operation of the schools.
  • Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair.
  • Moves furniture or equipment and prepares building facilities as required for various activities and as directed.
  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
  • Reports immediately to the Principal major repairs needed or any damage to school property.
  • Schedules or provides custodial care during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and the Principal requires custodial attendance.
  • Provides input to budget, both short and long term, as requested.
  • Responds to emergency situations in school buildings such as power failure, plumbing, heating or vandalism.
  • Provides custodial functions as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate and required.
