About The Position

Citizenship & Syracuse Academy Jr./Sr. High School is seeking a dedicated and reliable Custodial & Maintenance Staff member to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and proper functioning of our school facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in building maintenance, cleaning, and repair work, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to creating a safe, welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, or maintenance work is a plus.
  • Ability to operate cleaning and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Accommodate school events and emergencies.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, and common areas, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, polish, and maintain floors and carpets; spot clean spills as needed.
  • Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, painting and touch-ups, equipment upkeep, snow removal, and salting sidewalks.
  • Operate cleaning machinery safely on soft and hard surfaces (e.g., vacuum cleaners, polishers) following health and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies; replenish janitorial items in restrooms and other designated areas.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, assemblies, and activities.
  • Wipe and polish furniture, ledges, pipes, doors, paintwork, and door glass to maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Maintain hygiene and safety standards for all cleaning equipment, closets, and storage areas under your responsibility.
  • Report safety hazards, maintenance issues, equipment defects, or any conditions detrimental to safe working practices promptly to the Operations Manager.
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, including the safe use of chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
