About The Position

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a Custodial Intern. This position is for 8.00 hours per day, 257 days (12 months) per year and is paid according to Lane 0 (Entry Level) of the Custodial Salary Schedule . This position is eligible for benefits and retirement . This position will work at schools and buildings across the district. SHIFTS COULD BE DAY OR EVENING. THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED, AFTER A MINIMUM OF 5 WORKING DAYS Purpose Statement The job of Custodial Intern was established for the purpose/s of creating an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and the public at various school site within the district ; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure. Essential Functions Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Cleans assigned school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, grounds, snow removal, graffiti, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment. Distributes a variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring materials are received by the appropriate parties. Evaluates a large variety of indoor custodial equipment failures for the purpose of researching and purchasing repair parts. Inspects school facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site meets district standards for safety and cleanliness, and/or identifying vandalism, equipment breakage, weather damage, etc. Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, labels/stores chemicals, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities. Monitors students for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive school environment and/or supervising student workers. Organizes And Supervises project work for the purpose of assisting custodians and maintenance department employees to meet deadlines. Performs maintenance and repairs (e.g. replace ballasts, outlets, locks, change light bulbs, replace washers, oil doors, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient use of facilities. Performs summer maintenance (e.g. strips/waxes floors, moves furniture, painting, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the site is ready for the coming school year. Repairs furniture and equipment (e.g. sharpening mower blades, changing oil, filters, replacing cords, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition. Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, injured and ill students, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment. Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and potential liability. Supports assigned site administrators (e.g. monitor students, after-hours school, community functions, reports smoking in halls, assists police, etc.) for the purpose of assisting them in their work activities. Trains individual custodians for the purpose of using shared equipment such as aerial work platforms. Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) Attendance is an essential function of this position. Other Functions Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors or district administrators, including tasks that support the safe, efficient, and effective operation of school facilities. Responsibilities may vary based on building needs, emergencies, seasonal work, or special events.

Requirements

  • Must be able to operate equipment used in industrial maintenance; adhering to safety practices; and handling hazardous materials; operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications may be required.
  • Must have knowledge of methods of industrial cleaning; and safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to communicate with diverse groups; adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; and working as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning methods, and sanitation standards.
  • Understanding of safe use, storage, and labeling of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Familiarity with routine maintenance tasks (e.g., changing light bulbs, minor repairs, replacing filters).
  • Knowledge of district safety procedures and protocols for responding to emergencies or hazardous conditions.
  • Awareness of proper equipment operation, including vacuums, mops, floor machines, and groundskeeping tools.
  • Skill in using custodial tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Skill in organizing work tasks and managing time to meet deadlines.
  • Skill in performing routine repairs on facilities, furniture, and equipment.
  • Skill in transporting, lifting, and moving equipment, materials, and school furnishings.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with staff, students, administrators, and coworkers.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe school facility.
  • Ability to identify facility issues such as vandalism, equipment failure, or safety hazards and report them promptly.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to monitor students and support a positive, safe school environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, including responding to urgent maintenance or safety needs.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate shared equipment such as aerial work platforms.
  • Ability to assist in overseeing project work and support custodians or maintenance staff.
  • Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds (e.g., furniture, equipment, supplies).
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and reach for extended periods to complete cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Must be able to operate custodial and maintenance tools and machinery requiring manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions such as sweeping, mopping, lifting, and scrubbing.
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity to inspect facilities, identify safety issues, read labels, and operate equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and occasional outdoor weather (e.g., snow removal).
  • Must be able to respond quickly to emergency or safety-related situations on school grounds.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation to report to assigned worksites on time and to travel between district locations as required for transporting tools, supplies, equipment, or supporting district operations.
