About The Position

The Custodial Head I position at Austin ISD is responsible for overseeing the cleanliness and maintenance of an elementary school campus. This role includes supervising a team of custodians, ensuring compliance with safety and cleaning standards, and implementing sustainable cleaning practices. The incumbent will also respond to emergencies and manage the custodial team's schedules and training.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Three years of custodial experience within AISD required.
• Ability to understand and execute detailed instructions regarding cleaning and maintenance.
• Knowledge of safe operation of cleaning equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English; fluency in Spanish preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of floor care techniques, including stripping and waxing floors.
• Ability to work well with people and provide exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Supervise three to six custodians to ensure the campus is clean, sanitary, and safe.
• Prepare equitable work schedules and duty assignments for the custodial team.
• Monitor work and provide on-the-job training for assigned custodians.
• Inform evening staff of scheduled events and adjust work shifts accordingly.
• Develop a rotation schedule for cleaning various areas of the campus.
• Maintain custodial closets and supply rooms in an organized manner.
• Schedule meetings with employees to discuss setups and additional cleaning needs.
• Review employee time sheets for accuracy.
• Evaluate work performance of custodians under supervision.
• Clean assigned areas, including classrooms and restrooms, according to established schedules.
• Ensure compliance with local laws for waste disposal.
• Set up facilities for events and move furniture as needed.
• Make minor building repairs and report major issues to the supervisor.
• Regulate HVAC systems for appropriate temperatures and efficiency.
• Inspect cleaning equipment for safety and efficiency.
• Follow safety procedures and report job-related injuries promptly.
• Maintain inventory control of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Utilize power washing and other equipment for exterior cleaning.
• Document and report unsafe conditions and maintenance needs.
• Respond to emergency situations after hours and on weekends.
• Promote sustainability measures in daily responsibilities.
