About The Position

The custodial assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment throughout the school campus. This includes performing general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and other common areas. The custodian assistant is also tasked with managing waste disposal, replenishing supplies, and ensuring the proper upkeep of school facilities. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining a positive and healthy learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.   • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Clean windows, walls, and ceilings as needed. Disinfect and sanitize high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, and desks. Empty trash bins and ensure proper waste disposal, including recycling efforts. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and other school facilities if the custodian is not available.
  • Restroom Maintenance Only when custodian is not available: Clean and sanitize restrooms, restock paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and other necessary supplies. Ensure restroom facilities are well-maintained and free of hazards.
  • Floor Care Only when custodian is not available: Maintain floors by sweeping, mopping, waxing, and buffing, ensuring they are clean and safe. Address spills and stains promptly to prevent accidents.
  • Facility Upkeep: Monitor and report any building maintenance needs (e.g., plumbing issues, broken lights, or equipment malfunction).
  • Safety and Security: Ensure the school is secure by locking doors after hours and reporting any security concerns to administration. Adhere to safety procedures, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Supply Management: Maintain and restock custodial supplies, notifying supervisors when supplies are low. Ensure proper storage and organization of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work with other school staff to address cleaning or maintenance requests. Communicate effectively with school administration regarding facility concerns.
  • Adherence to School Policies: Follow all health, safety, school, and district guidelines while performing duties. Participate in training or professional development as required.
  • Assists in examining school for safety hazards; reports deficiencies to the operations manager, principal, and/or school resource officer.
  • Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to faculty, staff, and/or principal.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents, staff, vendors, community members and students.
  • Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Adhere to and understand all policies and procedures in the STEAD employee handbook and Minga Handbook.
  • Monitors campus with other faculty and staff after school as assigned by the executive director.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
