About The Position

The Custodial and Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall coordination and operational effectiveness of custodial and maintenance services across Saginaw ISD facilities. This position ensures facilities are clean, safe, and fully operational through staff supervision, system management, and proactive planning. The role also serves as the district lead for the FMX work order and facilities management system, ensuring efficient workflow, communication, and accountability across all facilities operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • Minimum of five years of custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operational systems (FMX or similar work order systems preferred).
  • Knowledge of custodial practices, maintenance coordination, and facility operations.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations including OSHA and MIOSHA standards.
  • Strong organizational, systems-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and improve operational systems.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and respond to changing operational needs.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of custodial and maintenance services across assigned facilities.
  • Establishes and maintains efficient and effective systems for cleaning, maintenance, and facility operations.
  • Serves as the district lead for the FMX system, including work order management, reporting, and system optimization.
  • Develops workflows within FMX to ensure timely response, prioritization, and completion of work orders.
  • Monitors and analyzes FMX data to improve operational efficiency, resource allocation, and service delivery.
  • Supervises custodial staff and coordinates maintenance staff activities in collaboration with the Director of Facilities.
  • Ensures facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and operational condition, in accordance with district standards.
  • Coordinates preventative maintenance schedules and custodial cleaning schedules.
  • Oversees seasonal work, including summer cleaning, building transitions, and snow removal coordination.
  • Supports minor maintenance and ensures timely coordination of larger repair needs.
  • Leads hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluation of custodial staff.
  • Provides ongoing coaching and development for staff in procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols.
  • Ensures adequate staffing coverage across shifts, including evenings, weekends, and special events.
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and high performance.
  • Collaborates with building administrators, program leaders, and facilities leadership to support operational needs.
  • Coordinates facility readiness for events, programs, and community use.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for custodial and facility-related requests.
  • Oversees inventory systems for custodial supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Coordinates purchasing, distribution, and tracking of supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures proper use, maintenance, and storage of equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA, MIOSHA, and district safety standards.
  • Monitors and reports unsafe or hazardous conditions.
  • Ensures proper handling, storage, and documentation of cleaning chemicals and materials.
  • Maintains building security protocols, including access, locking procedures, and event readiness.
  • Conducts routine inspections and quality control checks across facilities.
  • Maintains accurate records related to FMX, inspections, inventory, and staffing.
  • Provides reports and updates to the Director of Facilities on operational performance and needs.
  • Responds to emergencies and operational needs outside of normal working hours.
  • Supports district-wide facilities planning and operational improvements.
  • Promotes high standards of cleanliness, safety, and professionalism across all SISD facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
